Remember Derry

On 30 January 1972 the British Army murdered 13 people in Derry in an event that became known as Bloody Sunday.

10,000 to 15,000 people, including women and children, had marched against internment (imprisonment without trial). The Britiah Army tried to block the route of the march. Some of the marchers started throwing bricks at the British Army, who responded with rubber bullets, CS gas and water cannon.

Two armoured vehicles drove into the predominantly Catholic area of Derry and soldiers got out and started firing live ammunition at the crowd, who were running away, killing 13 men and boys and injuring 17 others.
