Jay Belloli was born in 1944. In later years he was a gallery curator, supporting Southern Californian artists. He died in 2021.
The poster was created in response to American plans to invade Cambodia during the Vietnam War, and the 'Kent state student massacre', at Kent State University in Ohio on May 4, 1970.
The university authorities called in the National Guard to break up a peaceful student demonstration. They were ordered to open fire on a group of unarmed students with live ammunition. Four students were killed and one permanently paralysed.
The design is based on Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son.
